| Eixample is the modernist part of the city. All of the streets here cross in a rectangular style, which is a very unusual design in European town planning. There are three distinctly different ambiences in the different bars and discotheques, but never mixed. In this district you will find locals that are lovers of design, traditionalists, and, of course, the young and informal ones. Plaça Catalunya is THE place to go for charming terraces, visited especially by young people and tourists. Eixample, however, is one of the nicest and safest districts to live in Barcelona. The most impressive monuments in this district are: some works of the famous architects Antoní Gaudí and Puig i Cadafalch, Casa de los Punxes, Plaça de Catalunya, and Passeig de Gràcia. |
