Location
Gràcia contains one of Gaudi´s earliest and most fascinating works, the Casa Vicens. When entering the district, the rigid blocks of Cerdà´s grid give way to narrow streets arranged haphazardly, and the change in atmosphere is striking. Some streets consist of small, two-storey buildings, and a series of attractive small squares provide space to pause and talk. Gràcia´s independent attitude is also reflected in a strong attachment to traditions like the Festa Major, which for a few days in August makes the area a centre for the whole city. Anyways, the area is quite popular for going out at night. The district contains many small factories and workshops and is home to a large number of students, sizeable Catalan-speaking gypsy community, and a substantial creative community of artists, actors, musicians, photographers and designers, all of whom contribute to its bohemian flavour. Interesting places to visit in this area include: Casa Vicens, Plaça Rius i Taulet, Plaça de la Virreina, Plaça Rovira i Trias, Plaça del Sol, Mercat de la Llibertat, and, of course, Parc Güell.
