El Masnou is one of the most important municipalities of the Maresme district. The vicinity to Barcelona, 14 kilometres, and the perfect transportation system are reason enough to be visited during the whole year.The city's origins are iberian and roman settlements in the area of Maresme and on the grounds of Masnou fishing villages were established. In the year 1820 el Masnou obtained its independence.Tourist attractions are for example the nautical museum, the church of Sant Pere from the 18th century, the town hall as well as the casino. In the historic centre the buildings Casa Benefica, Casa de Cultura, Cal Teixidor (17th century) or Ca l'Antic (16th century) are worth mentioning.Close to the beach you will find the marina with different sports facilities. The beaches of El Masnou are very beautifull and they regulary obtain the certification 'Blue Flag' for its cleanness. During summer the beach bars normaly organise concerts and competitions during evenings. The leisure facilities and the gastronomy are of special importance in the whole region as well as trade and services.During the entire year and particularily in summer different activities take place, such as the international festival Ple de Riure and the festival of Sant Pere. Only 5min. away by car the small village Alella is situated. It is famous for its wine and there are wine fiestas and you can go to wine degustation.
