To the north of the city centre sits Poble Nou, flanked on one side by Barcelona’s beaches. The area has been transformed from its industrial roots, and its old buildings and warehouses have been making way for some of the city’s newest hotels and buildings. Meanwhile, many of its former factories have been turned into trendy loft apartments or artists’ workshops. This renaissance hasn’t robbed Poble Nou of its old character, though, and a village-like atmosphere is still very much in evidence. This is a great spot for enjoying a drink at one of the bars or restaurants without the crowds of tourists you find on the main Ramblas off Plaza Catalunya.
