Last Day: El Born, Barceloneta & the Grand Finale in Montjuic

The last day has to be lived to the full so there are absolutely no excuses! The programme we have prepared will make even the laziest people jump out of bed! Next stop: Arc de Triomf. Walking along the Passeig de Lluís Companys you will reach the Parque de la Ciutadella and on crossing the park you come to the district of Born (Interlink artículo barrio). Although it is considered as central as the gothic area, it is a little more hidden and therefore quieter. There are numerous young designer shops with their creations on display, and whilst prices may be a little higher than in other areas if you want to buy something unforgettable from your incredible trip this is really worth it!

    Afternoon

Continuing towards the sea crossing the Pla de Palau you will reach Barceloneta. This has been a fishing district for centuries and among its streets, small squares and overall atmosphere you can breathe in the real atmosphere of this part of the city, popular and lively with busy beaches full of young people and all very organized! A good place to relax a little!

    What is there to do?

You can start at the Passeig de Joan de Borbó (1) and go into the heart of the district that leads to seafront promenade and take a rest here or keep walking. You can see clearly just how lively the area really is with its beach bars dotted along the coast, and lanes marked out for cycling, roller blading or skateboarding. Benches line the beaches to take a rest and enjoy the view that reaches all the way along to the Olympic port area, the Puerto Olímpico (2)!

Returning along the Passeig de Joan de Borbó, on the opposite side of Barceloneta you’ll find the area of Port Vell the harbour with its great selection of restaurants and if you are lucky you can often catch a mini concert of artists publicizing their new CD and a live display of their music, Barcelona is always full of surprises!

Nearby is the Cataluña History Museum, the Museu d’Història de Catalunya that is located at the Palau del Mar (3).

From here you can reach the Torre de San Sebastián where you can take the cablecar to Montjuic.

Are you ready for the grand finale? Take the cable car the Teleférico de Barcelona, up to Montjuic - a cabin suspended in the air! Yes! it really is a fabulous idea to get a full 360 degree view over the city!

    Grand Finale
    Route in Montjuïc:

Go up to the Torre de San Sebastián. There are two lifts, one to the restaurant and the other to the cabins. Enjoy the spectacular views of Barcelona and take this opportunity to take some panoramic photos!

When you have got to the the estación Miramar (1) you will have to walk 5 minutes to get to the funicular de Montjuic, that will take you up to the top of the mountain and the castle Castillo de Montjuïc (2), a fortress facing the sea, in case the views from the cable car were not enough for you. This is one of the highest points of the city! For the sportiest ones among you, you can also walk up to the top!

On the other hand for those who suffer from vertigo there is another possibility to get to the castle; take the metro at Drassanes, at the end of the Ramblas, until Parallel, and it is just a walk away from the station to Montjuic the funicular de Montjuic (using the same metro ticket).

After a brief visit to the castle you can start your descent, on foot, with the funicular or even a bus that will take you to the Cataluña Art Museum the MNAC (3), the Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña. It is a wonderful place to view the Plaza de España and as we have already prepared you it is also the location of the magical fountains the Fuentes Mágicas (4). From 21.00 onwards (in summer) Montjuic offers an absolutely fascinating show that is a fusion of water, light and colour to the rhythm of music. It is not by chance that these fountains were named magical! It is a must visit.

ADVICE: La Caseta del Migdia, a little hidden spot at the top of Montjuic is a great location that you will find by following the road the Camí del Mar, that leads around the castle. It has an outdoor terrace where you can have a drink or something to eat and enjoy wonderful views with live DJ music of funk, groove and lounge. Another magical atmosphere!

Once the show is over you are free to choose how to spend the night on your last day in Barcelona. If you are at the Plaza de España, you are just a few metro stops from the centre of the city (Plaza Catalunya) and you can choose from the bars and pubs of the different districts of Raval, the Gótico or go back to the more sophisticated ambience of the Born.
