Anyone who has lived in the city for any length of time will have seen the little 3 wheeled yellow cars driving about. I had always thought they would be an absolute blast to drive and lo and behold just last week I was presented with the opportunity to try it out. Pure excitement!

However when the time came to drive, my excitement soon changed to nerves and then fear! For I had just realised that I had never driven on the right hand side of the road, only on the left back in Britain. This was compounded by the fact that my partner for the ride pulled out on the day which left me going solo for this seemingly dangerous mission.

Although after a few minutes the fear dissipated and was replaced with joy. After getting a hand of the controls, it really is a piece of cake. Anyone who has driven a scooter will be able to handle this little yellow car. The controls are as simple as pulling back on the throttle to go and pulling the two brakes to stop…no clutch or gearstick to contend with. This allows you to get as much enjoyment as possible out of the experience.

Along with the ride is a unique and ingenious GPS system. It talks to you throughout the tour and provides funny anecdotes as well as some history as you pass through the city. It also gives great directions on how to get to the different sites.

Still not wanting to be totally solo I decided to follow two friends of mine who were driving in front. We were also with two Italian friends as well but we lost them early on as the boy racers sped off into the distance!! As I left the garage of the Go Car company, I turned right onto Via Laietana turning back on ourselves towards Barceloneta and then on through to Vila-Olimpica.

It was at this point where the car told us about being a single lady and the different types of guys. It started with saying how the Italians are always trying it on but unfortunately as it began talking about the French it cut-off as I accelerated through a straight so that was the end of that.

After that we drove up the terrifyingly wide Carrer de Marina towards the Sagrada Familia. And from then we made our way down the Ramblas, during which the car tells you it is going to wolf whistle and that you are to wink at the prettiest girl or guy (depending on your preference!) that is nearby! Feeling suitably embarrassed by this I just kept my head down and had a quiet laugh to myself. All the while I could see the girls from the office in front of me giggling uncontrollably as their car did the same!

All in all, it was a fantastic experience and a spectacular way to see and get to know the city for anyone who has never been before. I even loved it after having lived here for 9 months! So go on…give it a try!
