Public Buses in Barcelona are a commonly used mode of transportation and as such, there are a myriad of lines that go all over the city.

In fact, there are over 750 buses and 2000 stops in Barcelona which thousands of citizens and tourists use everyday.  Here is a round-up of the main advantages and disadvantages of using Barcelona’s bus system:

Advantages Disadvantages
  • Buses run all hours of the day
  • They are air conditioned
  • You can receive a text message telling
you exactly when the next bus will pass any stop
  • Easy to access with wheelchair, prams, suitcases etc
  • Traffic jams are a common problem
  • It’s difficult to know exactly where you are going and where each stop is

There are several types of buses that you can catch at certain hours of the day:

Day Buses

On the official website of the Barcelona bus service, just choose the number of the Bus you want to take and you will get a complete map of the stops and the route.

Tips
-You can use day time buses free within 1.5 hours of using the metro with the same ticket.
-T10 tickets can be used by more than one person. So friends and family can share the T10 amongst themselves.
-Stay alert at and around bus stops, in the streets at night, and even on buses and always keep your belongings at close hand. The Nit Bus is convenient but by no means is reassuring in terms of security.
Night Buses

When the day buses stop running, the NIT bus runs from 22:00 to 06:00 depending on the line.

The official website of Barcelona Night Buses gives information about all the Barcelona bus lines departing from Plaza Catalunya.  On the left of their page you can click on each line to get full details of the route, its stops and time table.
