The Marathon of Barcelona is itself a great story. It was held for the first time in 1980 on the outskirts of Barcelona city centre. In 2005 a total revamp of the Marathon gave it some new popularity with a brand new course that’s entirely urban and flat. The new organisers hope that by doing this it will give Barcelona the marathon it deserves so it can rank among one of the best in the world.

Last year a record total of 10,500 runners finished the Marathon! The winning male runner was Kotut JACKSON from Kenya who achieved a total time of 2hrs: 07min: 30sec. In the women’s marathon, it was won by an Ethiopian, Debelle WUDNESH, who achieved a time of 2hrs: 31min: 51sec. A truly impressive result!

It’s expected that more than 10,000 participants will run the marathon this year. The course will take you through some of the most charming places in Barcelona such as, Plaza España, Camp Nou, Diagonal, Paseo de Gracia, Sagrada Familia, Torre Agbar, Plaza Sant Jaume, Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas just to name a few!
