If you had to pick the most famous dishes of Spanish cuisine, you’d surely mention tapas and paella, but there are other comfort foods which could be considered also typically Spanish… Even if almost any cuisine in the world has its own version of it. We’re referring to the basic of the basics: the sandwich, known in Barcelona as bocadillo, bocata (in Spanish) or entrepà (in Catalan). The best sandwiches in Barcelona may not be your typical sandwich, but we assure you they’re delicious. You can find bocadillos with many ingredients and you can find the most typical ones, which have just a couple and are delicious in its simplicity. In Barcelona the bread (most times, French baguettes or rustic style) usually comes rubbed with tomato and with delicious olive oil, as pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) is one of the bases of Catalan cuisine, but you can ask for it with just the olive oil. You’ll find the sandwiches with just one ingredient, like serrano ham or omelette, are all that you need – but there are other more varied options equally satisfying. We’ve prepared a short list of the places where you can find the best sandwiches in Barcelona that include all sorts of them!

- Conesa: It’s probably the most famous sandwich bar in the city – a true classic! The specialise in hot sandwiches with Catalan sausages and sauces. It’s located in Plaça Sant Jaume and there is usually a long queue, but if you’re lucky you may be able to enjoy your meal in one of their little tables.
