We’ve Tried: Night Out at La Luna

In the dynamic city of Barcelona you will find bars of all kinds. On the corner of every street you will find at least 3 of them and no matter if you prefer a luxurious lounge bar or a cheap local pub; you will never have to travel far for them. Nevertheless I get the feeling that you will find the best bars if you venture down one or two small streets away from the tourist attractions. One bar that requires you to take one or two back streets is La Luna.

Location

La Luna is a cocktail bar on Carrer Abaixadores, next to the Santa Maria del Mar in the Born district. If you walk in that direction from metro Jaume I you will find the street on your right hand and initially it does not look that good. This is a typical smallish bar but go in and few steps in you will see cocktail bar / restaurant / lounge that makes up La Luna; a beautifully decorated room with kind staff and a wide range of cocktails and other goods.

Although we walked in after the bar had just opened, we were greeted kindly by the manager Fabio who immediately seated us and showed us the cocktails list. In typically female fashion, 15 minutes passed by and none of us had decided what to order so Fabio took it upon himself to make us a surprise cocktail. All we had to do was give our preferences – what a fabulous idea!

The Cocktails

After a couple of minutes, a pair of brightly coloured cocktails appeared and not in a small martini glass but, like every cocktail here, in a pint! I was served a delicious tropical mojito mixed with coconut rum and after a few sips, my taste buds were craving more.

Next to the cocktails they serve all the drinks you would expect in a bar including Guinness beer. But you can also go to La Luna for a bite to eat. You will be able to get tapas at any time of the night in the bar section, although they might seem pricier than the average but the portions are big and the quality definitely makes it worth it. From 8:30 pm the restaurant section opens and here you get a broad choice of delicious meals. I am personally a big fan of the grilled salmon with potato-pumpkin mash and a light mustard sauce.

Some Small Details

For a cocktail you will pay 6.50€ or 7.00€, you can order a portion of tapas for an average of 4.00€ and a meal is available from 11.70€. So, dress up and have a great night out at La Luna. Be warned, gets very crowded, especially on the weekends, so reserving a table might be a good idea.

Tip: You can get a 10% discount on all cocktails with the Oh-Barcelona discount card {What’s this?}
