We’ve Tried: A Cocktail or Two at La Fianna

Many would describe Barcelona as a city full of surprises, and La Fianna is a place that does justice to this description. It is an individually styled bar/restaurant in the middle of Banys Vells street, very close to Jaume I metro stop.

It is very easy to get here from the metro stop, but with one wrong turn you could get lost in the tiny alleyways, as one of the characteristics of the Borne are the narrow and winding streets. So as to be able to find my way, I knew that the cocktail bar would be close to the Picasso Museum.

From the entrance to La Fianna, everything seems very simple. But once you make up your mind and head inside you enter another world. Rustic walls, sofas covered with brightly coloured cushions and loads of lamps and candles that lend a warm ambience to the place. The bar is given an intimate atmosphere by the lounge music being played to the wide range of visitors: from tourists to professionals, young people and families coming to eat. I heard different languages, many people in full romantic mode, tourist mode or- quite simply- just out for a drink.

The place is especially well-known for the excellent cocktails on offer and there is a huge choice. However, if you can’t find your favourite cocktail amongst the options, don’t hesitate to ask for it, as they will prepare it for you anyway. My friends and I had different cocktails, from classics such as Mojito and Sex on the Beach to the well-known Mai Tai. A few tapas? These are on offer too and they accompany the drinks perfectly, especially if you haven’t eaten anything and don’t want the alcohol to go to your head. We ordered a portion of patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) which were delicious and the portion quite generous.

For those who want more than just nibbles, you can find a varied but, of course, very Spanish menu in the restaurant area (taking into account that for the restaurant it is better to make a reservation). For non-smokers, don’t worry- the restaurant area is non-smoking. However, smokers also have their own space in the bar area.

**Remember to take advantage of the 10% discount on all cocktails for Oh-Barcelona customers and sample one or all of the great concoctions La Fianna is famous for.

{What’s This?}

Nevertheless, the best thing is that going out like this doesn’t have to cost a lot. The bar has very good prices, cocktails costing between 4€ and 7.50€ at the most expensive, and tapas come at the same cost. I would also recommend the Happy Hours, which for tapas are every day from 19.00 to 00.30 (Fridays and Saturdays until 23.30), and from Monday to Thursday, 18.00 to 21.00, when all cocktails are 4.50€ and strawberry cocktails 5€ (holidays not included).

Be sure not to miss this flavoursome experience. For more information, have a look at the La Fianna Website.
